Year-round outdoor pools use a tremendous amount of energy, have an oversized water budget and rely on harsh chemicals to maintain water hygiene. The clients felt it was time to push the technical boundaries of residential pools. We worked with them to design a net-zero energy, water-efficient and chlorine-free pool integrated into the landscape of their property, their daily routines, and their community.

The competition-length lap pool is nestled into the hillside below the residence, sited to minimize excavation and regrading. From the pool, there are minimal visual obstructions, connecting swimmers directly to the horizon. Open air and a lack of chlorine mean that swimmers are enveloped in the sights, smells, temperatures, and light levels of the immediate environment.
